Judy Godsell, 84, of Statesville, N.C., and formerly of Oklahoma City, Okla., went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2026.

According to her family, Judy was one of the sweetest women whoever walked the planet. Her faith in Jesus was very real to her, and she wanted others to know the love of God shown to us in the Lord Jesus.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Jim. She leaves behind her sons, Gary Godsell of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jeff Godsell (Deborah) of Cleveland, N.C.; three grandchildren, Ben Godsell (Madi), Katie Brown (Seth), and Carrie Mosteller (Josh); and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother OA Garr II (Kay) of Oklahoma City, Okla., as well as her three nieces and families, also residing in Oklahoma.

Judy was born in 1941 in Yale, Okla., to OA and Dorothy Garr. After high school, Judy attended business college and worked as a secretary. She married Jim Godsell in 1966 and enjoyed 64 years with him.

Judy enjoyed playing games with friends, traveling with Jim, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her church and her church friends. She attended Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Western Avenue Baptist Church in Statesville.

Judy had a humility that was rooted in her faith. Her written testimony made that clear, “The greatest thing that ever happened to me was when I received Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. Apart from God I am nothing.”

Ephesians 3:14-19

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father [f]of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on March 5at Troutman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m.
