
Katherine “Kat” Malcolm Wensil, 96, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at Autumn Care of Statesville. Born on December 30, 1929, in Iredell County to the late Espy C. and Annie Meadows Malcolm, Katherine led a life defined by love, hard work, and community.
A proud graduate of Brawley High School, Katherine dedicated many years to her career as an inspector at Burlington Industries in Mooresville, where her meticulous nature shone through. Even after her retirement, she continued to serve her community, working part-time at the Mooresville Golf Course and later at a Food Lion grocery store. Katherine was an active member of Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, where her faith and friendships flourished.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Judy Wiggins of Lexington, S.C., along with grandchildren Chris Wiggins, Mark Wiggins and wife Kristin, and Jason Wiggins and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Sean, Andrew, and Conner Wiggins and Emma and Cooper Swygert; and special friend, Debbie Connelly. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry Wiggins; brother, George L. Malcolm; sister, Louise Everhardt; and grandson, Michael Chad Wiggins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Katherine’s honor at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel in Mooresville, with Rev. Dr. Kerry Finch officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, 804 Fieldstone Road, Mooresville, NC 28115.
