Larry Dean Johnson, 77, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Monday, January 19, 2026, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1948, in Iredell County to the late James Burl Johnson and Belva Walker Johnson.

Larry attended Cool Springs High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1968, serving in Germany during that time. On June 5, 1970, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Anderson Johnson. In June of 1971, he became a member of the Statesville Masonic Lodge #27. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was Master of the Lodge in 1976. He was an active member of Oakdale Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons. He was a partner with CCI Telecom and later worked as a truck driver for McConnell Grading.

Larry lived his life for his family, his friends and his church, and he was always there to help. He loved coaching and watching his son play sports, and he never missed a ball game.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise McDaniels, Barbara Jolly, Nancy Redman and Pat Connelly; and two brothers, J.B. Johnson and Kenneth Johnson.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his son, Brian Johnson; honorary children, Colt Hammond and Samantha; grandchildren, Kade, Layla Grace, Heath and Taw Hammond; sisters, Martha Hartley (Ray) and Norma Jean Parker (Tommy); sisters-in-law, Janet Johnson and Debbie Triplett; special friends, Phyllis Pegram (Roy); fur baby, Buster; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 23, at Oakdale Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Faith Church Cemetery with full military honors and Masonic Rites. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Active pallbearers will be Colt Hammond, Mark Johnson, Marty Tucker, Mark Bentley, Jason McConnell and Roy Pegram. Honorary pallbearers will be Kade, Heath and Taw Hammond.

The family of Mr. Johnson will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church, 585 Mocksville Hwy., Statesville, NC 28625.

Arrangements for Mr. Johnson are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
