Mary Carolyn Combs Cook, 82, of Stony Point, N.C., passed away at Autumn Care of Statesville after an extended illness on Thursday, January 1, 2026. She was born on August 1, 1943, in Iredell County to the late James and Lucille Deal Combs. She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church and worked as an inspector at Shurtape Technologies.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carlton Cook; her two daughters, Diane McMillian and Debbie Luffman; two grandchildren, Jeremy Luffman and Chad McMillian; and her brother, Jimmy Combs.

Carolyn is survived by her son-in-law, Barry Luffman; her brother, Tommy Combs of Taylorsville; her sister, Martha Johnson of Statesville; her three grandchildren, Donald Luffman, Jessica Luffman, and Josh McMillian; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Stony Point Cemetery on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 3 p.m. Reverend Talmadge Hollar will be officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor’s choice or the Shady Grove Baptist Church Mission Fund, 3327 Amity Hill Road, Statesville, NC, 28677.
