Matilde “Tilly” Martin-Diaz, 84, peacefully passed away on March 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Tilly was born on March 20, 1941, in Seville, Spain, to Manuel and Ana Martin-Diaz. She grew up surrounded by Spanish culture, traditions, and family values that remained an important part of her life. Tilly immigrated to the United States after marrying and began building a life centered on family, hard work, and love.
Throughout her life, Tilly worked for several organizations, including Alaska Airlines and Mutual of Omaha. Later in life, she found her true calling as a nanny, caring for and loving children as if they were her own. The family she worked with cherished her warmth, kindness, and dedication.
Above all, Tilly was a devoted mother and grandmother. She raised three daughters and took great pride in her five grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She had a special love for animals, which always seemed to gravitate toward her gentle nature.
Tilly enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking traditional Spanish dishes, and cheering for her favorite soccer team, Real Betis. Her love for her Spanish heritage remained strong throughout her life, and she shared that passion with her family through food, stories, and traditions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Ana; and her brothers, Manolo and Antonio.
Tilly is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda, Tiane, and AnaLee; her cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Mason, Keith Alejandro, Nicholas Antonio, and Kellyn Alicia; and her sisters, Chari, Ana Maria, and Josefina.
Tilly will be remembered for her warmth, strength, sense of humor, and the deep love she gave to her family and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched throughout the years.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is proudly serving the Martin-Diaz family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
