It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly kind and gentle man, Michael “Mike” Keith Powell, whose life was defined by faith, love, and quiet strength.

He was born on October 2, 1953, in Morganton, N.C., to the late Keith and Nancy Powell. Mike was a calm and simple soul, the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome. There was not a single person who had a bad word to say about him; he got along with everyone he met and left a lasting impression through his kindness and steady presence.

Jesus, his family and friends, his country, and music were the center of his life. These passions shaped the way he lived, loved, and served others. Whether through song, conversation, or simply being there for someone in need, he shared his heart freely and faithfully.

He lived a long and full life, though his family feels his passing came far too soon after his courageous battle. His legacy is one of love, humility, and unwavering faith.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 34 years, Scarlet, who stood by his side through every season of life. Their love was a testament to commitment, faith, and partnership.

He is also survived by his five children, Travis, Brandon, Lindsay, Tara, and Tess, and his nine beloved grandchildren.

His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now with the Lord, free from pain and suffering, and at peace in His presence.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. with a service following at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Hamrick officiating. A Graveside service will be held with military honors at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at the Salisbury National Cemetery.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Powell family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
