Michael Wayne Thomasson, 83, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026. He was preceded in death by Phillip A. Thomasson, Berdie M. Thomasson and Phillip M. Thomasson. Mike was born June 30, 1942, to Phillip A. Thomasson and Berdie M. Thomasson in Great Falls, S.C. After his father’s passing in 1943, Berdie moved with her two boys to Charlotte, N.C. Michael carried throughout his life the strength, humility, and enduring values of his small-town upbringing.
Mike graduated from Garringer High School and attended UNC Charlotte majoring in Chemistry. He began his career as a lab technician at Stein Hall & Company working on projects such as creating hot melt adhesives. He was then recruited to join the sales force for selling these products by Unocal Corp. (Chevron), where he worked for 21 years until they sold that division to Ashland Chemical. He worked at Ashland for a short period and then joined Chemsolv of Roanoke, Va., as a sales representative until his retirement.
He raised his family in Charlotte, N.C., where he built a home centered on love, responsibility, and steadfast devotion. As a husband and father, Michael was steady and dependable — a man who believed in hard work, integrity, and leading by example. He showed his love not only in what he said, but in what he did each and every day.
For the last 30 years, Michael made his home at Lake Norman in Mooresville, N.C. There, surrounded by the natural beauty he cherished, he embraced the things that brought him the most joy: woodworking, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
One of his simple but greatest pleasures was feeding and watching the birds from his porch. He could often be found sitting quietly, observing their visits with patience and appreciation. In those moments, he found calm and contentment-proof of his deep connection to nature and his ability to find joy in life’s quieter rhythms.
He was especially devoted to his friends and extended family at the Lake Norman Rod and Gun Club. The club was more than an organization to him — it was a brotherhood built on shared traditions, fellowship, and a love of the outdoors. His commitment reflected his loyalty and deep appreciation for friendship and community.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Grady Thomasson; his daughters, Kelly Bates (David), Susan Correggia (Matteo), and Lisa Thomasson; his grandchildren, Taylor Bates Nelson (Jacob), Trey Bates, Macey Correggia, Matthew Correggia, and Leah Correggia; and his great-granddaughter, Daisy Ann Nelson. Through them, his legacy of strength, love, and devotion will continue.
He will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, his steady presence, and the warmth he brought to every gathering. His love for his family, his friends, and the natural world will remain woven into the lives of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Proverbs 20:7 – “The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”
