
Myrtis Beatrice Greene was born in Augusta, Ga., on April 14, 1936, and lived large segments of her life in Charlotte, N.C., Cabarrus County, N.C., and Troutman, N.C. She passed away on February 16, 2026, after an extended decline in her health related to a sudden illness a year ago. After extended hospital and rehab care she was served by Lake Norman Home Health, VIA Hospice Services and Lakeside Health and Rehab.
She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, CPCC with an AD in Applied Science (1968), CPCC with an AD in Nursing (1975) and UNCC Pathways with a BS in Nursing (1984). She worked as an administrative assistant for Johnson Motor Lines, and as an RN for greater than 30 years. She served as an RN/Supervisor at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
Myrtis was a member of Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church in Troutman. She frequently assisted with Vacation Bible Schools and “feeding the families” of church members. Some of her favorite things were reading (thank you Cindy), gardening, sewing, traveling, the beach, shells and sand dollars, birds, and her various pups.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mamie and Hubert Steinek; brother, Max Steinek; sister and brother-in-law, Sally Johnson and Bill Johnson, husband Bill Spidel Sr. (34 years); daughter, Beth Spidel; son, Bob Spidel; husband Richard Greene (17 years); and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Surviving Myrtis are her son Bill Spidel Jr. (Isabell); grandsons, Sean Spidel (Maggie), and Ryan Spidel (Jennifer), daughter-in-law Rachel Spidel, grandson: Kyle Spidel (Joy), granddaughter: Nicole Tagalk (Sontice); great grandchildren, Lane Spidel, Luke Spidel, Brittany (Brandon) Smith, Layne Spidel, Ellie Tagalk, Jordan Tagalk, and Vanna Tagalk; sister-in-law Dora Steinek; nephews, Josef Steinek, Karl Steinek (Terri), Clara Steinek, and Anna Steinek; as well as various cousins, friends, Trent Patterson, Ray Murphy, and Jack (the dog).
Service will be Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, N.C. Visitation will be immediately following the service.
No flowers, please. Memorials are not necessary, but if you choose, they may be submitted to one of her favorite charities, PBS, or to a charitable institution of your choice.
