Pamela Smith Childers was born in Iredell County at Long Hospital on April 27, 1952. As a young girl in Bible School, Pam gave her heart to Jesus and strived to live for Him each day. She learned to cook from her Granny as a little girl and became the chief cook for her brothers growing up and carried that on into adult life raising kids and a husband. Her reputation for homecooked meals reached far and wide. Pam began her working career as a drug store waitress in high school, and after graduating from South Iredell High School, she went on to become an insurance secretary, a school bus driver, a church secretary (which was a ministry to her), a notary public, and an office manager for the last twenty years of her career. During her 54 years of marriage, she was a very important part of her husband’s music ministry, serving several churches in this area. Her greatest joy in life was her children and later her grandchildren!
Pam was preceded in death by her father, Osborne Smith, and her mother, Eunice G. Adams. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stanley; her daughter Mandy (Gary); her son Nathan (Caroline); her granddaughters, Macy and Makayla Ernst, Emmy and Vivi Childers; and her soon-to-arrive grandson, James Childers. Also surviving are her brothers, Chuck (Nan) and Terry (Crystal) Smith, along with several nieces, nephews, and stepsiblings.
