
Phyllis Billings Frye, 90, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. She was born December 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Duel Billings and Annalee Fox Billings.
Phyllis worked in a Hosiery Mill and at Frye Hospital, where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. After her husband passed, her best friend was her dog Patches. She enjoyed watching soap operas. Her daughter Jewell and her grandson Sean was her caregivers for a number of years. Growing up the only girl with five brothers made her who she was — one tough woman!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford William Frye; daughter, Sandra Frye Taylor; infant sister Jemmalee; brothers, Ted Billings, Melvin Billings, and Donald Billings; and her half-brother, Lindbergh “Charlie” Fox.
Those left to cherish and honor Phyllis’s memories include her daughter, Jewell Steele (David) of Taylorsville; son, Billy Frye (Lisa) of Conover; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald “Babe” Billings of Taylorsville; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joel Frye will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Brandon Frye, Shane Frye, Jordan Frye, Derek Steele, Mark Harrington, Allen Yoder, and Artur Hofer; and Honorary pallbearer and caregiver Sean Steele.
