Richard Delane Day, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2026.

Born on October 26, 1940, in Iredell County to the late Robert and Evelyn Day, Richard is survived by his twin brother Robert “Bob” Day of Troutman; his sisters Karen Simpson of Cleveland, N.C., and Tina Bowden of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane Mayhew Day and grandson Duncan Christopher Day Jr.

His surviving children include Melissa Day and Duncan Day (Leslie), all of Mooresville; granddaughters, Ansley Messick (Steven), Candace Hagerty (Matt), Emily Jones (Andrew), and Gracie Day (Curtis Josey); great granddaughters, Mallory Messick, Remington Hagerty, Kenley Messick and Evelyn Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard graduated from Troutman High School class of 1959. He worked many years for Clodfelter Builders and then retired from Marshall Steam Station. Richard was a volunteer fire fighter for many years at Shepherds Fire Department and then Mt. Mourne Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, quilting, watching hummingbirds and spending a lot of time in his garden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at McKendree Chapel Methodist Church, Mooresville, N.C., with Pastor Chad Nelson officiating. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
