Mr. Roger Irvin Overholser, a dedicated U.S. Air Force veteran, respected community leader, and successful businessman, passed away on April 7, 2026. He was 87 years old.
Born on December 13, 1938, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Everett and Josephine Overholser, Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he demonstrated courage, discipline, and leadership during his military career.
Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jan Overholser; three daughters, Robin Bennett and husband Tim Bennett of Norwood, N.C., Dawn Wight of Mooresville, N.C., and Kari Mickle of Leipsic of Ohio; three grandchildren, Madison Greene of Mooresville, N.C., and Sarah Bennett and Katie Bennett of Albemarle, N.C.; and great-grandson, Riley Greene of Mooresville, N.C.
After completing military service, Roger transitioned into the business world, where he built a distinguished career as a valued team member, steadfast leader and entrepreneur. Known for his sharp intellect and innovative spirit, he contributed significantly to the success of various enterprises and earned the admiration of colleagues and partners alike. His business acumen helped create opportunities and economic growth in his community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Roger was an avid golfer. Over the years, Roger played countless rounds at Mallard Head GC, where he was well known for his sportsmanship and enthusiasm. He cherished golf not only as a pastime, but as a way to build lasting friendships and create memories with family. Whether playing a round with his daughter or sinking a long putt on the 18th, Roger’s love of the game was evident to everyone who shared a tee time with him. Roger was also a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes football fan so Saturdays in Autumn were sacred. He and Jan planned their days around kickoff and rarely missed a game. Win or lose, Roger loved his Buckeyes, and he will be missed within the tight community of fellow Buckeye fans.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at a date and time to be determined in Mooresville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or The Humane Society of Lake Norman, P. O. Box 3937, Mooresville, NC 28117.
Roger will be remembered for his quick wit, easy laugh, and the joy he brought to every gathering. He never missed a chance to share a story, lend a hand, or make someone feel welcome. Above all, he loved his family and friends. Though he will be dearly missed, the warmth, laughter, and love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
