Ruth Ramsey Summers, 80, affectionately known as “Sister,” was born July 20, 1945, to the late George Ramsey and Carrie Bell (Gig) Williams Ramsey in Statesville, N.C. She was born and raised in the historic Rankintown Community. On Tuesday, February 12, 2026, after a brief illness, her spiritual train came roaring by, and God took her to her final destination in the sky.

In addition to her parents, Ruth “Sister” was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, William O. Summers Jr.; her son, one of the joys of her life, Allen Ramsey; siblings, Freddie Lee “Buddy” (Brenda) Williams, and Willie James ”Paul” (Carol) Williams, her twin, Rufus Alexander Ramsey, John Nathan Ramsey, and George (Ham) Ramsey Jr.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish the memories her two surviving children, Juanita Summers of Wilmington, Del., and Lesley Summers of Wilmington, Del., who were her pride and joy.
She nurtured them throughout their lives and had a big heart that never seemed to tire.

Ruth “Sister” also leaves behind her devoted siblings, Juanita Ramsey of Winston-Salem, N.C.., Francine (Wayne) Mauney of Statesville, N.C., and Phillip (Carol) Ramsey of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two Great-Aunts, Ruth Ramsey Rankin, and Louise Adams of Youngstown, Ohio; and a Great-Uncle Joe Louis (Catherine) Nelson of Capital Heights, Md., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family. Her life was enriched by the unique bond of being a twin. Every year “Sister” would head down south to Statesville, N.C., to visit and to go fishing with her mom and brothers. Fishing and watching football were her interests. Her favorite teams were the Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Panthers.

Ruth spent her early years in Statesville, N.C., and attended Morningside High School. She later moved to Wilmington, Del.

Memorial services were held in New Castle, Del.
