Sara “Nell” Lancaster Bowles, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.

She was born on September 7, 1937, in Caroleen, N.C., to the late William Jesse Lancaster and Stella Bessie Matheney Lancaster. Nell was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, Mooresville. Nell loved children and showed Jesus’s love to generations of children through children’s Sunday School. She sang in the adult choir and senior choir and was a member of the Sonshine Group. She was a loving wife and helped keep the books for her husband’s business.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Ray Bowles; sisters, Julia Williams (Freddie), Lois Gant (Paul); and brother, Melvin Lancaster (Martha).

Nell is survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Rev. David Klinedinst and Rev. Hal Greene officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
