
Shelby Jean Murdock Karriker, 82, of Troutman, N.C., peacefully went home to be with Jesus, surrounded by her family, on March 30, 2026, after a brief illness at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Shelby Jean was born December 5, 1943, in Iredell County to the late Lake Wood Murdock and Pearl Jane Myers Murdock.
Shelby Jean graduated from Troutman High School, married and raised three children while working in textiles for Flexnit Manufacturing and Thorneburg Hosiery Mill, later getting a Nursing Assistant degree and working in assisted living private care. After retirement, she helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
She enjoyed cooking for her family, thrifting, puzzles, seek-a-word books and watching the Hallmark Channel. She enjoyed drinking her coffee and watching the birds off the back deck.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Scott Karriker; daughter, Sherry Karriker Brown; brother, Dennis Woodrow Murdock; sisters, Leville Overcash, Mimi Dell Moore, and Hessy Louise Moore, and infant sister, Louise Murdock.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan Privette (Rick) of Hiddenite; grandson, Zachary Privette (Tori) of Statesville; granddaughter, Rebecca Privette; grandson, Noah Brown; granddaughter, Hannah Brown; great-grandchildren, Zane and Zoey Privette and Elera Grace Brown; brother, Charles Allen Murdock (Brenda) of Statesville; and many nieces and nephews who she cherished.
The family will receive friends at Troutman Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, from 5 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
