Mrs. Sue Vance Wilson, 92, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully Monday, March 9, 2026, at Summit Place Assisted Living Center.

She was born on June 15, 1933, in Jackson County, N.C., to the late Rev. CO & Marie Hensley Vance.

Sue was a 1951 graduate of Cove Creek High school of Vilas, N.C., later graduating from Gardner Webb College and then Appalachian State Teacher’s College in 1955. She married her Gardner Webb sweetheart, Darrell Wilson, in December 1954. Mrs. Wilson was a dedicated teacher in several districts in North Carolina and Virginia.

However, it wasn’t until the family returned to Mooresville in 1971 that she began her long-standing teaching career with the Mooresville Graded School District, where she taught Mathematics at the Mooresville Jr. High School and the Mooresville High School.

Mrs. Wilson was a beloved teacher, mother, “Gammi” and friend. She continued to serve Mooresville teachers and students as a 16-year member of the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education.

Sue was extremely active in her church, First Baptist of Mooresville (FBC), immediately upon the family’s arrival in Mooresville. She taught youth Sunday School classes, was a member of several women’s circles and was a longtime member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She served on many committees, including personnel and social, and several minister search teams. In 2002, Sue was ordained as the first female deacon of FBC. She was a member of the Gardner Webb Alumni board, receiving the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents, CO and Marie Vance; husband, Darrell Wilson, and sister, Doris Vance Banner.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Michelle and Bill Corbett, Charles Darrell Jr. (Chuck) and Stacey Wilson, and Kyle and Tammy Wilson; her grandchildren and their spouses, Dara Sue and Ben Martinez, Wilson Corbett, Zebulon Corbett, Charles D Wilson III, Garrett and Sarah Wilson, Kyndle Wilson, Ansley Wilson and Daniel Baldwin; her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Martinez (“Birdie”); her niece, Terri-Lynne and Jason Poppe; and extended family.
