Virginia “Joy” Elder, 77, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born June 20, 1948, in Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late James Boyce Allen Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Carpenter Allen.

Joy worked as a CNA II for Alexander County Hospital, Davis Hospital, and Iredell Memorial for over 30 years. She was of the Methodist faith and was a dedicated wife, mother, and caregiver. She had a loving and caring heart for others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Boyce “Jimmy” Allen and wife Barbara.

Those left to cherish and honor Joy’s memories include her husband of 57 years, Richard Elder; her daughter, Lisa Kay Elder, the “love of her life,” of the home; her brother, Carl Allen (Tina); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Elder Family Cemetery. Pastor Tim Jolly and Pastor Jeff Carson will officiate.

Pallbearers include Shane Elder, Josh Elder, James Goble, Bobby Simmons, Jason Swaim and Nathaniel Kerley. Honorary pallbearers include: A.J. Elder, Dylan Allen, and James Allen.

Memorials may be made to Carson Chapel Methodist Church or Rocky Springs Methodist Church.
