
Wesley Brent Stepp, 72, of Pleasant Garden, N.C., died on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was born on August 8, 1953, in Statesville, N.C., to the late Archie and Nora Lunsford Stepp.
Brent graduated from Southeast Guilford High School and attended Guilford Technical Community College. He retired as an air conditioning technician for the United States Post Office.
He was a devoted member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. He worked with the Boy Scouts and was active in church life, including working with the church youth. He also volunteered at multiple fundraisers—hauling cooking equipment and helping cook his famous chicken and fries, and making cotton candy, funnel cakes, and popcorn.
Brent was known for his distinctive laugh. He loved grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken tenders, had a passion for anything Disney and Sea World, and he enjoyed photography.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by multiple Lunsford cousins in Iredell County with whom he remained in close contact. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Bruce Shipman of Kernersville and “my good buddy” Dale Tilley of Jonesville.
Brent will lie in repose on Monday, March 23, 2026 in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville from 10:30 until 11 a.m. A funeral service, conducted by Pastor Kestler W. Ruth, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
