To the Editor:
If you have ancestors who lived in Iredell County, your help is needed to help celebrate the 250th Anniversary of our country in 2026 by submitting an updated history article to the Iredell County Public Library’s Local History Department.
Many accounts of yesterday are written in Iredell Heritage Volumes I and II as strong memories of our forefathers. But, like sands in an hour glass, time has marched on.
Today, The Literary Committee of the Iredell County Public Library is planning to publish the Iredell Heritage County Heritage Volume III. This is an opportunity for families from across Iredell County to bring family histories up to date since the last edition was published in 2000. Also consider what might not have been put into earlier volumes, including history of local churches, schools, businesses, fire departments, townships, clubs, social groups, and other organizations. New family histories written about families that did not appear in earlier volumes are also welcome.
Those wishing to submit histories should contact Iredell County Public Library’s Local History Department at (704) 878-3090, Ext. 3093 or Ext. 8801.
Please add crisp clear pictures to your new articles and write the articles in a Word format and two columns. Please submit these articles before the end of 2025.
Write-ups can be sent to the Iredell County Public Library, Local History Department, 201 North Tradd Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
The Local History Department is on the top floor of the library beside the Reference Department. The area is open to researchers Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For more information, contact Michele Taylor at michelle.taylor@iredellcountync.gov or Joel Reese at jreese@iredellcountync.gov.
The Literary Committee currently consists of Shellie Taylor (chair), Iredell County Public Library; Joel Reese, Iredell County Public Library; Shelley Federal, Purple Heart Homes; Steve Hill, Statesville Historical Collection; Brian Summers, Iredell County Friends of the Library; and Harry Watt, Iredell County Historical Society.
Please answer the call to add new memories into Volume III of the Iredell County Heritage. Your shared volumes of memories are important for the past, present and the future of Iredell Country History.
Thanks to all for your consideration on this very important treasured history project.
