To the Editor:
On November 1 our area food banks were really struggling to keep what I call staple food bank products on our shelves. We were being hit with government cuts from suppliers and individuals.
About two weeks ago I was bombarded by multiple groups in Iredell County about helping.
Piedmont HealthCare started a food drive and challenged other companies to step up as a friendly competition. At that point #statesvillefeedstheneed was created to assist three local food banks.
Then Hunk a Junk Hauling started a food drive that we incorporated into the ongoing effort. And United Way of Iredell started a huge push and secured $10,000 in corporate and private donations to supply nine local food pantries with more than 1,000 pounds of food each.
Our community is amazing, and I wanted to make sure it was screamed as loud as possible. There is no way to mention everyone who is helping. Thank you to everyone who has helped feed their neighbors during this time of uncertainty.
