A Statesville man faces drug and weapons charges after being stopped for a traffic violation by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Dionte Jaquan Clark, 32, of Brevard Street, Statesville, in a news release Thursday.
Deputy M. Sharpe conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 on Brevard Street for traffic violations on Monday, Campbell said. Clark was driving the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located 290.6 grams of Marijuana, four dosage units of a Schedule IV controlled substance, marijuana paraphernalia, a Taurus handgun that was reported stolen, and $970 cash, according to the the news release.
Clark was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he received a $20,000 secured bond from Magistrate Russell on the charges of Felony Possession of Marijuana, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance, Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Gun, Misdemeanor Simple Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Deputy Sharpe also issued Clark citations for Misdemeanor Driving while License Revoked, Displaying an Expired Registration Plate, and Expired Inspection on the Vehicle.
All those charges and only under a $20.000 bond? Someone tell me what I missed please.

Should be at least $500,000 bond secured! If we are going to stop this crap we are going to have to hit where it hurts!
$500,000. People that get charged with murder get bonds less than that and in some cases get out of jail faster than someone who gets a drug charge. Stop crowding the prison systems with non-violent offenders and make sure the rapist, child molesters and murderers stay locked up.
If we end crime then we’d need less officers. It’s a business folks…just a business.
Look, if you are going to sell weed, be smart about it. I cant understand why people are so stupid. Make sure your car is legal! Hello? You are making a ton of $$$ selling weed, register your car, get insurance. Don’t speed, stop at stop signs, use the signal. And don’t smoke weed while driving! One would think that after all the fools get caught the same exact way…that people would learn. But no they don’t and then they whine and cry cuz they got busted. Smh
If people were getting arrested for other drugs, I’d say “Yes, arrest him & increase the bond”, but it’s weed. It’s not a big deal & it’s used for medicinal purposes. If cops would concentrate on other more important things like rape, homicide, human trafficking, cartels & gang members, dangerous drugs like fentynel, meth,…DEFINITELY arrest them & throw the book at them, but weed…Come on now! It’s legal in alot of states & it’s only a matter of time before it’s legal in all states. Weed has been around for a very long time & it’s not going anywhere. There will just be more of it around. Also, alot of jails might not be so overcrowded if they’d just leave it alone.
Do you understand what bond is for? It’s not a punishment.
