Special to Iredell Free News

Each year the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service announces recipients of the Loving Support of Excellence.

This year the Iredell County Health Department was one of five counties in North Carolina that received this award.

The Loving Support of Excellence Award was established to recognize local Women Infant & Children (WIC) agencies that have provided exemplary breastfeeding promotion support activities. This award is also used to motivate other local agencies to strengthen their breastfeeding promotion and support activities and ultimately increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates among WIC participants.

The Iredell County Health Department WIC Program provides healthy foods for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children under the age of 5, and breastfeeding support in both our Statesville and Mooresville locations.
