Residents of Mooresville can get  glimpse into the inner workings of the Mooresville Police Department and Mooresville Fire-Rescue at their upcoming Citizen Academies, which begin in March.

Police Academy

The MPD Citizens Academy will start March 3. The 12-week course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with graduation on May 19.

The classes, which will be taught by Assistant Chiefs Cooke and Henderson, will include hands-on scenarios like mock crime scenes, K-9 demonstrations, use-of-force training, and court preparation and presentations. Dinner will be provided.

Applications for the MPD Citizens Academy are available at https://mooresvillenc.gov/258/Police-Forms and should be turned into the police department either by mail or in person.

Applicants for the academy must be 18 and over and are subject to passing a background check.

Fire Academy

The ten-week Citizens Fire Academy kicks off on March 19, and is open to all Mooresville residents and business employees who are at least 18 years old. The classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Dinner will be provided.

Activities for the Fire Academy include touring ECOM, observing active fire operations, learning about the Fire Marshal’s office and participating in HAZMAT activities. At the culmination of the course, participants will have a graduation ceremony held at a Town Board meeting.
