Iredell health officials reported 129 new cases of COVID-19 — and two additional deaths — on Friday as the number of laboratory confirmed cases continues to surge across the county and across the United States.

There have now been 4,730 cases of COVID-19 in the county, including 1,441 cases since November 1.

Fifty-two deaths in the county have now been attributed to the novel coronavirus, and 23 people who have tested positive are currently hospitalized.

Some 710 individuals who have tested positive are isolating at home throughout the county.

Health officials estimate that 3,945 people who have been infected are now recovered, although some of them may develop long-term health issues.

State and local officials continue to urge residents to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and wash their hands frequently.
