MOORESVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will convert the crossroads of Talbert Road and Oates Road to an all-way stop to improve traffic safety later this month.
The traffic pattern change will be implemented October 27, weather permitting. This intersection is currently a two-way stop.
NCDOT recommended the conversion due to high crash rates at the intersection.
Temporary message boards will be placed along the roads starting tomorrow to inform drivers of the upcoming traffic pattern shift. All lanes will remain open while new signs are installed.
Motorists should drive slowly through the area and remain alert for roadway workers.
As a reminder, drivers approaching an all-way stop should follow these rules:
♦ The first vehicle at the intersection has the right of way;
♦ When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way and may go straight or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right;
♦ When two facing vehicles approach an intersection simultaneously, both drivers can move straight ahead or turn right. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield; and
♦ Even with the right of way, drivers should remember to use appropriate turn signals and watch for pedestrians and other vehicles.
Finally. Thank you for getting this done. Although it causes me one more stop on my way to work, at least I won’t have to wonder if I’m going to get hit every thing me I go through the intersection.
