FROM STAFF REPORTS

A Charlotte man who was wanted on a drug sales charge faces new charges following a traffic stop by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Deputies assigned to the ICSO Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team were working on Interstate 77 northbound in the area of the 63 mile marker on Thursday, April 16, when they stopped a rental vehicle with a Louisiana registration plate for traffic violations, according to a news release.

Lamar King

Deputies spoke with the driver and sole occupant, identified as 39-year-old Lamar Taiwan King, who explained he was traveling from Charlotte to Mt. Airy, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in the news release.

Canine Abby subsequently alerted for the presence of illegal narcotics inside of the vehicle, Campbell said. A search of the vehicle located a vacuum-sealed bag containing 127 grams of marijuana wrapped in plastic and hidden in the trunk of the vehicle, he added.

During the investigation, the deputies determined King had an outstanding fugitive warrant for his arrest from Virginia for selling a controlled substance, according to the news release.

The marijuana and drug paraphernalia were seized, and King was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. King appeared before Magistrate Chambers, who issued a $125,000 secured bond.
