The ICSO began investigating on November 10 after the Iredell County Emergency Communication Center received a call from a Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office detective. ICSO deputies learned about a report involving two males pushing a side-by-side ATV off the side of Tobacco Road near Renegar Road near the Iredell and Yadkin county line.

ICSO deputies and detectives responded to assist Yadkin County deputies. Once on the scene, they set up surveillance on the ATV due to the suspicious activity, Campbell said.

A short time later three white males arrived to retrieve the ATV, according to the news release.

When the deputies attempted to stop the three suspects, one of the males fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on the passenger car and identified the two males in the car as Keith Brown and Cody Lee Roberts.

Detectives discovered Roberts had outstanding arrest warrants in Yadkin County and he was detained.

A Stihl chainsaw was located inside the vehicle. The chainsaw and the ATV were recovered by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to be held until the owner was located.

During the course of the investigation, the owner of the ATV called the ICSO to report the stolen ATV. This victim checked another building and determined he was also missing a Stihl chainsaw.

Detective Scott Hall established that Roberts was one of two people involved in the theft of the ATV and the chainsaw, according to the news release.

Roberts was charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle. He was taken before Magistrate Helms in Yadkin County and given a $50,000 secure bond. He is currently being held at the Yadkin County Detention Center.

According to the ICSO, Roberts has previous convictions in Wilkes County for misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny.
