FROM STAFF REPORTS

The number of positive cases of COVID-19 — as well as the number of staff and students required to quarantine and isolate — in Iredell-Statesville Schools continues to decline.

But schools across the district continue to be impacted by spread within the community. Twenty-two I-SS schools reported at least one case of COVID-19 during the week of October 15-21.

Eleven staff members and 46 students tested positive during the latest reporting period. None of the staff cases and only two of the student cases were the result of secondary spread in schools, I-SS officials said.

A total of 294 students were required to quarantine due to close contact with someone in the community or school who tested positive, and 481 other students isolated after exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 during the reporting period.

Compliance with the district’s mask mandate allowed 648 students who were deemed to be a close contact to remain in school, officials said.
