Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Caleb Lee Marrero, 20, in a news release Wednesday.

The ICSO began investigating after receiving a report concerning an alleged statutory rape on February 19, Campbell said. The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Campbell of the ICSO Special Victims Unit.

As part of the investigation, the victim was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. Based on evidence and statements gathered during the investigation, Campbell obtained six warrants for Marrero’s arrest, according to the news release.

On Monday, Marrero was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with three counts of felony statutory rape of a child less than 15 years old by an adult and three counts of felony statutory sex offense with a minor less than 15 years old by an adult.

Marrero appeared before Magistrate Imes, who issued a $75,000 bond on these charges.
