Twenty-four suspects face felony drug charges as a result of ongoing undercover drug operations throughout Iredell County.
“We are working seven days a week to target and arrest drug dealers and repeat offenders here in Iredell County, as well as those who would attempt to profit by bringing illegal drugs into Iredell County while committing other crimes,” Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
“We have built trust with those who wish to see these criminals locked up, and we are listening to these people. These suspects sold to undercover detectives or arranged for sales to undercover detectives,” he added.
The arrests, made between December and March, are the result of hundreds of hours of surveillance and detailed undercover operations, the sheriff explained.
“The message is we are continuing to make Iredell County and our communities an unprofitable place to operate and sell illegal drugs by increasing the risk of being arrested,” Campbell said.
The following suspects face charges:
David Paul Merritt, 41, of Shelton Avenue, Statesville

My only problem with the system arresting these people is jail for addicted people is not the answer. They need rehabilitation and counseling. The problem with that is the county makes no money that way. Each inamte in NC you the taxpayer get charged $25k a year for. Stop the revolving door and actually help the people of your county get sober and clean. Actually open facilities to help people!! Rehabs have long waiting list and most people have no insurance. Offer two years intense rehab instead of a jail cell! And if you think drugs are not inside our prisons and jails your sadly mistaken. It runs in their just as much as it does on the streets where you live. It’s time for a change for the better with the criminal justice system. Stop the revolving door!
No … jail is the only rehab guarantee PERIOD!!! (40+years LEO) They don’t want treatment, and you cannot force it on them. If they opt for treatment vs. jail, it is superficial, and won’t last. They just don’t want to be in jail (now)! They will go right back to what they know & who they know. No active drug testing in rehab either, and no consequences!
Anybody else notice all these people look 20 to 30 years older than they are?
