A western Iredell County resident faces numerous felony charges following an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a sexual assault allegation.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Ray Douglas McCoy, 56, in a news release Wednesday morning.

The ICSO received a report on December 27, 2021, indicating that a child had possibly been sexually assaulted, the sheriff said. The child was 9 years old at the time of the assaults, according to the news release.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Campbell, who is assigned to the ICSO Special Victims Unit. When the victim was interviewed, information was obtained about the time and locations of the assaults, which reportedly occurred over a two-year period beginning in September of 2016, according to the news release.

Detective Campbell conducted additional witness interviews and obtained evidence during the course of the investigation.

Based on all of the evidence gathered throughout the investigation, Detective Campbell obtained arrest warrants for McCoy.

McCoy was arrested on Thursday, February 3. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with felony statutory sex offense by an adult, felony dissemination of obscenity to a minor, and five counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.

McCoy appeared before a magistrate, who issued a $150,000 secure bond on these charges.
