FROM STAFF REPORTS

A suspect faces charges in connection with a shooting near Harmony on Tuesday night following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Jhonathan Morales

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Jhonathan Morales, 20, in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies responded to 111 Tabor Inn Lane south of Harmony after receiving a report that a woman had been shot at that location.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they located a female sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. She had sustained a gunshot wound to her leg, Campbell said.

The victim told the deputies her boyfriend, Morales, had shot her and fled the scene, according to the news release.

Witnesses in the trailer park were also interviewed by deputies and verified the victim’s account and identified Morales as the suspect, Campbell said.

The woman was treated at the scene by Iredell County EMS personnel and then transported to a local trauma center for additional treatment.

ICSO criminal investigators and crime scene investigators responded to the crime scene. While processing the crime scene, investigators received information about the suspect’s truck being at a location on Friendship Road.

Deputies responded to the location and seized the vehicle. Investigators obtained several felony arrest warrants for Morales and entered him as a Wanted Person at that time.

A short time later additional information was obtained indicating the suspect was at a location in Yadkin County.

ICSO deputies and Yadkin County deputies responded to the location, where Morales was taken into custody without incident.

Morales was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill, and Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Morales appeared before Magistrate J. Hollar who issued a $50,000 secure bond for the Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Because the Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill was domestic violence related Morales was jailed without bond on that charge.

Morales was charged on Monday, July 17, with Felony Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle.

According to the ICSO, Morales’ criminal record includes the following charges: Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering, Felony Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and driving-related charges.
