FROM STAFF REPORTS

Friends of a Statesville man who was murdered last week are trying to raise money to pay for his funeral expenses.

Zion Wilder, 19, was fatally wounded on March 15 while inside his home on Goldsboro Avenue. Two men are charged with murder, attempted murder and related charges in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officers are searching for a third suspect in which a 15-year-old was also critically wounded.

Friends mourning the loss of Wilder, who attended Statesville High and Northview Academy, remember his sense of humor, how kind he was, and that he looked out for others.

They are trying to raise $4,000 to cover the cost of his burial expenses and are asking the community to help out so his funeral can be held on Friday.

Donations can be made in person at Rutledge & Bigham Funeral Home, located at 603 South Center Street in Statesville. Make sure you tell the staff that the donation is for Zion Wilder’s funeral expenses.

Contributions can also be made to the funeral home through Cash App. After downloading the Cash App, enter the donation amount, select $RutledgeBigham as the recipient, and enter “Zion Wilder” next to the For prompt.

All contributions will go directly to the funeral expenses.
