Iredell County commissioners have signed off on a plan to relocate some Iredell County Sheriff’s Office personnel to commercial property located at 1714 Wilkesboro Road in Statesville.

The ICSO Narcotics Unit, Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team, Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team are among the 30 to 40 personnel vacating the Monticello property, which is for sale.

Commissioners approved a lease with Holland Properties Holding LLC for the 14,558-square-foot building and 1.331 acres during the board’s November meeting. The annual cost is $230,000.

Sheriff Darren Campbell told commissioners that the new space is more modern and the location is more convenient. He hoped to complete the move “as soon as possible.”

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business:

♦ The board approved a request from the Library to accept Farber Specialty Vehicle’s bid for $250,920, and approve a Budget Amendment to appropriate additional State Aid to Public Libraries to purchase a mobile library.

♦ Commissioners approved a request from the Finance Department for approval of conveyance of 239 surplus firearms from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to Lawmen’s Distribution in exchange for 48 new rifles valued at $46,800.

♦ Commissioners accepted a $1.9 million offer from Crescent Acquisitions for the purchase of county-owned property at 204 Bluefield Road in Mooresville.

After the property was listed by Allen Tate Realtors, the county received an initial offer of $1.4 million from Maxwell Group/Weller Life. That offer was upset a total of three times, including the Crescent Acquisitions offer.

The proceeds from the sale will be used to help fund improvements to Jennings Park.

♦ The board agreed to donate surplus computers to the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont for use in its Students in Training Program (SiT). Students who participate in the program learn how to troubleshoot, complete diagnostic screenings and any skills associated with computer technology. 

♦ Commissioners approved a request from the Finance Department to enter into a Build Ready Site Grant Agreement between Williams Development Group and the N.C. Railroad Company (NCRR) with the County being the third party administrator of the grant. Williams Development has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the NCRR. Iredell County will contract with the NCRR to administer this grant.
