A suspected drug trafficker was released on an unsecured bond in Cabarrus County following his arrest by Mooresville Police Department officers.

The MPD announced the arrest of Xavier Antwone Blackwood, 35, in a news release.

He was taken into custody on November 1 by MPD detectives at 412 E. McLelland Avenue after the Concord Police Department asked for help locating Blackwood, who was want on multiple drug charges.

 At the time of his arrest, Blackwood was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and quantity of unknown powder-type substances, police said. Blackwood was turned over to Concord police, and the unknown substance was sent to a lab for analysis. According to the MPD, the results came back as fentanyl (more than four grams) and cocaine.

On November 21, MPD detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Blackwood for felony trafficking in fentanyl, two counts of possession with Intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, and three misdemeanor drug offenses.

Blackwood has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for attempted trafficking in opiates or heroin, possession with intent to sell a schedule II controlled substance, four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and a federal conviction for selling cocaine. He was released in May 2022 from the N.C. Department of Corrections after serving a term of 29 months for trafficking convictions.

The warrant was served on Blackwood by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office on November 26. He was released on a $500,000 unsecured bond by a Cabarrus County magistrate, police said.
