The N.C. State Highway Patrol is asking for the public to help with a hit-and-run investigation.

Troopers responded to a hit-and-run crash on U.S. Highway 21 at Shumaker Drive about 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, according to an NCSHP news release.

A motorcyclist traveling on U.S. 21 was struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene, according to the news release. After the collision, the suspect vehicle made a right turn onto Jane Sowers Road and continued east.

Iredell County EMS personnel transported the driver of the motorcycle to the hospital with injuries.

According to troopers, the suspect vehicle is a red two-door truck with chrome fenders. The truck may have damage to the front center or front right and is possibly a late 1980s Dodge Dakota.

The NCSHP requests that anyone who witnessed the accident or saw the suspect vehicle in the area of U.S. 21, Shumaker Drive and Jane Sowers Road on March 26 to call troopers at 828-466-5500.

The investigation is ongoing.
