About 100 Iredell County Special Olympians competed in the Spring Games at Statesville High School on Wednesday morning. Aided by an equal number of volunteers, the young athletes enjoyed the Parade of Athletes along the track and the opening ceremonies before competing in 12 different events. The youngest of the Special Olympians (ages 2 to 7) enjoyed a play area and the older athletes (ages 8-11) competed in groups based on their abilities. Middle school and high students will take the field on Thursday.
