A man suspected of shooting a woman multiple times while she was in her vehicle outside a Statesville home earlier this month has been apprehended.

The Statesville Police Department announced the arrest of Justin Tyrone Cowan, 37, of Statesville in a news release Tuesday afternoon. 

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service/Carolinas Regional Task Force located Cowan at a residence within the city limits of Statesville earlier Tuesday and took into custody, police said.

Cowan had outstanding warrants for his arrest in connection with a shooting that occurred on March 13 on North Center Street in Statesville.

According to the SPD news release, Cowan shot a female multiple times and then left the scene. The victim was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

Following his arrest, Cowan was taken before the magistrate and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center with no bond. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The Statesville Police Department expressed its appreciation to the U.S. Marshals Service/Carolinas Regional Task Force for their continued partnership and efforts to locate Cowan.
