The Statesville Police Department is investigating a double shooting that occurred Wednesday night off Caldwell Street.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Caldwell Street about 9:31 p.m. after receiving a report about shots being fired in the area, according to an SPD news release.

After arriving at the scene, officers located Michael Stevenson, 28, of Statesville suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen, police said. Officers provided medical aid until Iredell County EMS personnel arrived.

Several minutes later the officers located a second victim, Devon Savoy, 33, of Statesville, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot, police said.

Both shooting victims were transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem by Iredell County EMS.

Investigators from the SPD Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and began their investigation.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Stevenson and Savoy and other subjects were standing on the side of the roadway talking at the intersection of Caldwell Street and Durham Avenue, police said.

Witnesses reported that unknown suspects began shooting from the wooded area near the victims’ location. The unknown suspects fled the area on foot, according to the news release.
