The City of Statesville invites all residents to participate in an upcoming open house event that aims to shape the future of the Monroe Street/Allison Street corridor and West Front Street neighborhoods.
The city has secured funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to explore ways to revitalize older manufacturing buildings and enhance the neighborhoods surrounding them. Both the Monroe Street/Allison Street corridor and West Front Street area have been home to manufacturing for over a century. While some of these buildings remain in active use, others have been dormant for decades.
City officials believe that the input and insights of residents are invaluable in shaping the future of these neighborhoods.
An open house is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas on how to make these neighborhoods better. Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the area, your perspective matters.
The event will be held at the Statesville Civic Center, located at 300 South Center Street. Drop in anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

What about also thinking about the mall and Vance Hotel? The old J.R. building? If planned right they will create more jobs so people can afford to live here. I hear people coming into work every day or so asking if there are any rentals in Statesville they can afford. Rent prices have skyrocketed, grocery prices on the rise, Seniors still unable to afford meds and eat too. Same old, same old. I hope some positive feedback is given at your meeting. I remember the city of progress; looking forward to that sign going up once again at the city limits.
My thoughts also, what about the east side which all Statesville residents enjoyed the shopping community there; the Mall and JRSs and Kmart and we could use a Publix or Ingles as good as the Cross Roads has. What’s all the infrastructure they’re digging and laying in for? A shame the waste of business, shopping and community opportunities.
Neighborhoods streets on and around Beauty Street are awful. What about repairing the roads that citizens drive on daily? Don’t say funding. There have been 15 new homes built on Beauty Street in the last 2 years.
Please explain the reasoning behind the widening of Broad Street. There was really no reason for that. What’s there? No mall, no village inn, no movie theater. Nothing. Was the reason for the widening because retail has expressed interest in coming to that area? I moved to Statesville in 1976 when that area around the mall was an exciting place to go. Now residents go to other counties to shop and for entertainment. Really, and we call Statesville the city of progress? Wow.
What about Park Drive and Wilson Lee Boulevard. What happened to cleaning it up.?
