Three community events are planned for Saturday, April 20, in Downtown Troutman:

Miles for Matt 5K

At 9 a.m., the Rotary Club of Troutman kicks off the day with the annual Miles for Matt 5K. Proceeds from the event help fund a South Iredell High School scholarship in memory of 14-year-old Matthew Bailey, who lost his life to a rare brain cancer.

Chicken on the Run

At 11 a.m., the Troutman Ruritan Club will fire up the grill and dish out some fresh chicken plates in to-go boxes for all the hungry runners or bystanders for its “Chicken on the Run” fundraiser event.

The plates, which are $12, will feature chicken, slaw, beans, and roll. Pre-order with the QR code. A limited number will be available for cash sale at the pickup site, the lot next to Elliott Insurance Group LLC (134 North Eastway Drive).

All proceeds are distributed back into local community through Troutman Ruritan projects, such as scholarships, helping elderly residents with home projects, school supplies, Christmas gifts for families in need, and building ramps for elderly.

Ruritan BINGO

At 4 p.m., the Troutman Ruritan Club will be hosting a charity BINGO event at the Troutman Event Center (105 N. Main Street). A portion of money raised goes back into the community through Ruritan projects.
