Starting a food business requires knowing which organization regulates the type of business you want to start. This process can quickly get complicated when more than one organization is involved.

N.C. Cooperative Extension is offering the “Starting a NC Food Business” on Thursday, February 29, from 1 to 5 p.m.

This workshop is offered at no cost to participants and designed for entrepreneurs interested in starting a food business in North Carolina. Local and state partners from NC Cooperative Extension, NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and NC Environmental Health will discuss food processing and regulations related to selling food products. Information about home food processing, kitchen inspections, acidified foods, and value-added foods (such as jams, salsa, pickles, dog treats, etc.) will be presented.

Participants will learn regulatory aspects of catering, food trucks, and selling at farmers markets.

“Know-how related to food processing and regulations are essential to starting a food business in North Carolina,” said Andrea Sherrill, FCS agent for Iredell County. “This workshop offers a variety of Extension experts and resources to help individuals plan for starting a food business.”

The workshop will be offered at the Iredell County Center, located at 444 Bristol Drive in Statesville.
