Congressman Patrick McHenry delivered remarks on Thursday at the unveiling of a statue of North Carolina’s Favorite Son, the Rev. Billy Graham.

The statue of Rev. Graham is one of the state of North Carolina’s two contributions to the Capitol’s National Statuary Collection. Rev. Graham previously received a Congressional Gold Medal in May of 1996 and also laid in honor in the Capitol Rotunda following his death in February of 2018 — becoming only the fourth private citizen to receive that distinction.

“Rev. Graham was a humble servant of God who spread the Gospel to millions around the world,” McHenry said. “One of the highlights of my service in Congress was when I had the honor of visiting with Rev. Graham at his home in Montreat.

“He is truly one of the finest men North Carolina has ever produced, and I can think of no tribute more fitting than for him to represent our state in Statuary Hall. I’m proud to have played a role in making that happen.”
