FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Mooresville man faces felony drug charges after being stopped for an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy for vehicle registration violations.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Joseph Michael Scriven, 36, of Bogey Lane, Mooresville, in a news release.
Deputy S. Zalepka, who is assigned to the ICSO Community Oriented Policing Unit, conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry on Stutts Road near Mallard Head Lane for vehicle registration violations on November 15, Campbell said.
During the traffic stop, Deputy Zalepka learned that Scriven was operating the vehicle with an indefinitely suspended driver’s license, according to the news release. Scriven also had two outstanding arrest warrants from Iredell County and Cabarrus County for driving while impaired and narcotics charges and traffic offenses, Campbell said.
ICSO Sgt. Hodges and his canine partner Levi were called to the scene to assist. Levi conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted for the presence of narcotics, according to the news release.
Based on this positive indication, deputies performed a probable cause search of the vehicle and found 3.43 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and Adderall, the sheriff said.
Scriven was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, two misdemeanor drug offenses and several driving infractions.
Magistrate Hollar issued a $20,000 secured bond for these charges. Additionally, Scriven was assigned a $5,000 cash bond for the Order for Arrest in Cabarrus County and a $2,000 secured bond for the Order for Arrest in Iredell County.
This guy doesn’t deserve a bond. Two warrants for DWI, an indefinitely suspended driving license and numerous felony drug charges. Am I missing anything? So he will bond out with drug money, again be driving illegally and be back in business selling more drugs and we wonder what the problem is!
