FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Statesville Police Department is investigating a double homicide and suicide that occurred early Friday morning in the Larkin community.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Bunker Hill Lane about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Arriving officers found a woman who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound outside a home, Police Chief David Onley said. That woman appears to have been shot by a male roommate, who also killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, Onley said.

The husband and wife were found deceased in their home across the street, the chief said. A 10-month-old baby was found unharmed at the couple’s home.

The names of the deceased have not been released, pending family notification.

The SPD Special Response Team was activated and deployed to the crime scene, along with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Bearcat and the U.S. Marshal’s Service Regional Task Force robot.

Around 10 a.m., the Bearcat breached the front door and the robot entered the home. The husband and wife were found deceased in an upstairs bedroom.
