Special to IFN

The Iredell County Health Department, in partnership with Integrated Care of Greater Hickory (ICGH), will host the Young Minds: Mental Health and Substance Misuse Support Summit on Tuesday, December 17, at the Statesville Civic Center.

This event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will bring together community members, healthcare providers, educators, and caregivers to discuss and address the critical impact of early exposure to substances and trauma on young people.

The summit will focus on the pressing issues surrounding substance misuse and mental health challenges faced by children and adolescents. Key topics will include in-utero exposures and their implications for the development of substance use disorders (SUD), as well as the broader effects on children and adolescents exposed to SUD and trauma.

Keynote speakers include Stacie Parson, Clinical Director and Licensed Addiction Specialist of ICGH, and Kimberly Siegrist, Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Both speakers bring a wealth of expertise and experience in working with young populations affected by substance use and mental health challenges. Their presentations will highlight the long-term effects of early exposure to substances, as well as effective strategies for supporting families and communities affected by these issues.

Admission is free, but registration is required. Seating is limited to 85 attendees. Lunch will be provided for all attendees at no cost.

The Statesville Civic Center is located at 300 South Center Street in Statesville.
