Traffic backed up on Interstate 77 on Monday morning after a Jeep being towed behind a camper caught fire.

Mooresville Ladder 5 and Troutman Engine 2 responded to multiple reports of a vehicle fire about 10:28 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the northbound camper stopped on I-77 just south of Rankin Hill Road, where the driver was able to disconnect the burning Jeep.

Mooresville Ladder 5 was first on the scene. Mooresville Fire-Rescue Personnel stretched one hose line and extinguished the fire.

Traffic was stopped while crews worked at the scene, backing up northbound traffic for miles.

No injuries were reported.
