Statesville City Councilwoman Kimberly Wasson officially announced her candidacy for mayor on Thursday evening, pledging experienced, compassionate leadership and a steadfast commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive city.

Describing herself as a “lifelong advocate for families, children, and public safety,” Wasson brings decades of experience as a business owner, nonprofit leader, and public servant to her mayoral bid.
“As a mother, grandmother, small business owner, and active member of this community, I have worked hard to serve our residents with integrity and compassion,” Wasson said in her announcement. “Now, I’m ready to take that service to the next level as your next mayor.”
A graduate of Kings College and Mitchell Community College, with studies in Business Administration and Early Childhood Education, Wasson touted her deep ties to the community she’s served for more than 30 years. She is the owner of Dynamic Marketing Solutions and founder and executive director of the Angel Wings Foundation, advocating for children and families across Statesville;
During her time as an at-large City Council member, Wasson has championed key initiatives that have improved the lives of city employees and Statesville residents, including:
♦ Advocating for long-overdue raises for city staff;
♦ Supporting increased code enforcement and the installation of cameras and license plate readers that have reduced crime;
♦ Promoting more diverse and affordable housing options throughout the city;
♦ Backing upgrades to beloved community spaces like Harris, Kimbrough, and MLK parks; and
♦ Working with staff to improve city offices and build new fire and police stations
In addition to her service on City Council, Wasson has been an active leader and volunteer, contributing to organizations such as the Visitor and Tourism Board, Charlotte Area Regional Transportation, Black Elected Officials, the Drug and Alcohol Coalition of Iredell, Iredell Health Foundation, Youth Initiative Planning Board with DACI, Statesville Women’s Club, and the Iredell-Statesville School Education Task Force. She is also a proud member of Shiloh AME Zion Church.
“My passion is — and always has been — children and families,” Wasson said. “I love this city, and I will advocate to help Statesville return to its past splendor — and reach beyond it — as a vibrant, welcoming, and thriving community for all.”
Wasson plans to continue engaging directly with residents throughout the campaign, listening, learning, and sharing her vision for a brighter future.
