The Statesville Police Department released the name of the motorist who was fatally injured in a crash on Shelton Avenue on Thursday morning.

Alexander Sheppard, 30, of Statesville died after his vehicle crashed into C&H Laundry about 10:17 a.m., according to an SPD news release.

The crash resulted in a fire, which destroyed the building at 1406 Shelton Avenue.

Police did not release any additional information about the crash on Friday.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details are available at this time,” the SPD said in a news release. “We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Sheppard’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
