Statesville police and fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire and explosion following a crash that claimed the life of one individual on Thursday morning.
Police, fire and rescue personnel responded to C&H Laundry, located at 1406 Shelton Avenue in Statesville, about 10:17 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a structure collapse following a single-vehicle crash, according to a news release.
After arriving at the scene, first responders observed that a vehicle had crashed into the building, resulting in a fire.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and secure the scene. An individual, whose identity has not been released, was found deceased inside the vehicle, according to the news release.
No other injuries have been reported.
A joint investigation is underway by the Statesville Fire Department and the Statesville Police Department. Authorities are requesting that anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone who has any information to contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.
Responding agencies included the Iredell County Rescue Squad, Iredell County EMS, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, and Troutman Fire Department. Other agencies were on standby. Their dedication and support were invaluable in managing this incident, Statesville officials said in the news release.
